Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Saturday 10 August
Original Town - 7pm - 2 Hours
Louis Johnson
We will be using various techniques to maximise the behaviour of the light. Backlighting is one of my favourites and can be used for portraiture or nature. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

Title or Location: Amaryllis Study in Light
This beauty has been brightening up our home during the blahs of Winter. I was not feeling well and rejected my morning walk. I noticed that the blooms on the Amaryllis were beginning to wane, so I took some time to capture it. Nikon Z8 24-120 mm @ 24mm f/4 ISO 200 - OCF one speedlight camera left 1/256th with a GOBO.

Drove all over town on Sunday, including I-20 Nature Preserve and came home with an empty card. Bummer. So I set up towards the little patio we have and waited. Not too long and the seed block we have attracted several species. Certainly a more comfortable environment!

Title or Location: Rocky Mountain National Park
The day before taking the shot, I drove up to RMNP to scout a possible Milky Way shot with Nymph Lake in the foreground. The scouting was successful as it did look like I'd be able to have both the lake and the Milky Way in the shot, so I made a plan to head up there again the next day (July 3rd) and capture what I planned. Prior to heading back up to RMNP, while looking at the map of the area, I noticed another possible location where Fall River would be in the foreground and in my mind, having

A friend of mine discovered this bald eagle nest just north of Lititz. I've been keeping an eye on it for a decent shot. This adult has been keeping guard of its juveniles for some time now. I finally saw the adult sitting just to the right of the nest. I am a very new and amateur photographer and still very much learning. I travel quite a bit and enjoy shooting the places I visit but also love wildlife photography. I really didn't process much other than bring up some of the exposure to g

Title or Location: Bempton Cliffs. Unsociable puffin
Me and my partner spent the day at Bempton cliffs and this was the only lone puffin that had it back to the sea, He/she was clearly not wanting to socialise with other birds. Possibly in a bad mood. This is why this particular puffing grabbed my attention.
